TACCIA Kazae Kenran Rankaku Urushi Fountain Pen - Yae no Shiokaze 八重の潮風 (Limited Edition)
Poetic terms were often used to describe different seasons and winds in Japanese culture. TACCIA drew inspiration from this and created the "Kazae Kenran" collection.
The collection utilizes a unique technique called “Rankaku” (eggshell inlay) and each pen takes months to create by:
- Lacquering: Natural lacquer is applied to the barrel, layer by layer, and then polished by hand.
- Inlaying: Eggshells are hand-cut and meticulously placed onto to the pen barrel, followed by repeated lacquering. Due to the fragile nature of eggshells, this process is much more challenging than traditional Raden work.
- Sanding: Sandpaper, charcoal powder and even the artist’s bare fingers are used to bring out the colors of the underlying eggshell fragments and achieve a polished finish.
In traditional “Rankaku”, the eggshell is usually flush against the lacquer surface. However, in the "Kazae Kenran" collection, the lacquer artisans purposely elevated the eggshell patterns during the sanding process to create a consistent raised thickness for each stripe, resulting in a tactile experience with a distinct texture. This technique further tests the skills of the urushi artisan since it is easy to over- or under-sand the delicate egg shell, leading to uneven thickness.
This collection consists of three designs:
- Yae no Shiokaze (Diagonal Stripes)
- Setsu no Nishikaze (Horizontal Stripes)
- Sarai no Kaze (Vertical Stripes)
Each pen is fitted with a responsive Japanese dual-tone 18K gold jumbo-size nib.
Limited to 33 pieces per style, each pen comes with a traditional Japanese fabric pen pouch and a bottle of ukiyo-e ink (40ml).

How much is my shipping?
Hong Kong and Macau have a flat rate of HKD 35.
For all other countries, the shipping rate is dependent on the order’s weight and will be calculated at checkout.
Which courier will my order be shipped through?
For Hong Kong and Macau, your order will be shipped through SF Express.
For Taiwan, your orders will be shipped through SF Express or E-Express.
For all other countries, Standard Tracked Shipping is shipped through E-Express. Express Tracked Shipping is shipped through Speed Post.
When will my order arrive?
Standard Tracked Shipping: For Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, estimated delivery time is approximately 2-4 working days. For the rest of Asia, 2-7 working days. For the rest of the world, 7-14 working days.
Expedited Shipping: Within Asia, typically 2-4 days. For the rest of the world, around 3-5 days.
