Craftsmanship and Heritage
Crafted using the Aizu lacquer technique, this pen draws from over 400 years of tradition in Aizu, a serene town renowned for its exquisite urushi lacquer ware. Aizu maki-e is celebrated for its bold, decorative designs that showcase a rich gradation of colors, enhanced by expert polishing techniques.
Maki-e Artistry
The traditional maki-e process employs a kebo brush to carefully apply gold or silver powder. A base layer of black urushi lacquer serves as a canvas for the intricate designs, where thin layers of abalone shell are embedded to create a stunning surface. The addition of gold leaf over the black resin amplifies the luster, while three types of gold powder, known as nashijiko, are meticulously sprinkled over the body and cap. This process is followed by intricate maki-e painting to achieve a breathtaking finish.
Each pen is a testament to craftsmanship, signed by the artisan on the lower portion of the barrel, ensuring its authenticity and uniqueness.

About the Platinum Izumo
The Platinum Izumo fountain pens were launched in 2010 and were named after the city of Izumo, the birthplace of Platinum Pen founder, Shunichi Nakata. The Platinum Izumo boasts a voluptuous size and beautiful curves, a clip that mirrors the shape of the pen, and is equipped with a #6 nib from the Platinum President. It comes in a variety of finishes such as urushi, wood and woven bamboo. Its classic cigar shape and substantial size certainly make a statement!
The Platinum Izumo has an 18kt gold nib and uses a Platinum converter or Platinum ink cartridges.

How much is my shipping?
Hong Kong and Macau have a flat rate of HKD 35.
For all other countries, the shipping rate is dependent on the order’s weight and will be calculated at checkout.
Which courier will my order be shipped through?
For Hong Kong and Macau, your order will be shipped through SF Express.
For Taiwan, your orders will be shipped through SF Express or E-Express.
For all other countries, Standard Tracked Shipping is shipped through E-Express. Express Tracked Shipping is shipped through Speed Post.
When will my order arrive?
Standard Tracked Shipping: For Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, estimated delivery time is approximately 2-4 working days. For the rest of Asia, 2-7 working days. For the rest of the world, 7-14 working days.
Expedited Shipping: Within Asia, typically 2-4 days. For the rest of the world, around 3-5 days.
