Introducing the Platinum Shikkoku Chikuringunkozu Izumo Fountain Pen, a masterpiece inspired by the renowned Japanese panel painting Gunkozu, attributed to the 17th-century artist Tanyu Kano. This stunning pen, launched in 2017, captures the spirit of the artwork, which depicts tigers playing in a serene bamboo forest.

Artistic Inspiration
The tiger, a significant figure in Japanese culture and one of the Four Divine Beasts from China, symbolizes strength and power. Although never seen in the wild, its legendary status has inspired warriors throughout history. The Shikkoku Chikuringunkozu features an elegant illustration of a tiger with crossed front legs, skillfully emerging from a bamboo grove.

Exceptional Craftsmanship
This exquisite fountain pen utilizes the Sumiko Taka Maki-e technique, where layers of charcoal powder, known as “shoen,” are meticulously applied to the pen's jet-black ebonite body. This multi-layering technique creates a stunning three-dimensional effect, giving the tiger depth and vibrancy. Over time, the image will develop a rich gloss, adding to its allure.

Complete Presentation
Each pen comes beautifully packaged in an attractive black paulownia wooden box, complete with an ink bottle, a converter, and a textured black crepe fabric pouch featuring a decorative string closure and cloud charm. This thoughtful presentation makes it an ideal gift for collectors and pen enthusiasts alike.

  • A beautiful cloth pen pouch with pockets for spare cartridges
  •  A bottle of ink
  • One cartridge
  • One converter

About the Platinum Izumo
The Platinum Izumo fountain pens were launched in 2010 and were named after the city of Izumo, the birthplace of Platinum Pen founder, Shunichi Nakata. The Platinum Izumo boasts a voluptuous size and beautiful curves, a clip that mirrors the shape of the pen, and is equipped with a #6 nib from the Platinum President. It comes in a variety of finishes such as urushi, wood and woven bamboo. Its classic cigar shape and substantial size certainly make a statement!

The Platinum Izumo has an 18kt gold nib and uses a Platinum converter or Platinum ink cartridges.

Platinum is a prestigious Japanese pen brand recognized for its exceptional craftsmanship and innovation. Founded in 1919 by Shunichi Nakata in Tokyo, Japan, this beloved pen company was initially named Nakaya Seisakusho, which means “manufacturer” and later renamed as Platinum Pen Company in 1928. Under Shunichi Nakata’s visionary leadership, Platinum became a pioneer in the manufacture and trading of fine writing instruments in areas ranging from introducing the catalogue ordering system, producing the first iridium tipped steel nib and the first platinum nibs, to inventing the first cartridge filled system and the “slip and seal” mechanism to prevent ink from drying out in the pen.

To the present day, Platinum remains dedicated to its quest for innovation to create “the ideal fountain pen” that combines timeless elegance with cutting-edge technology. One of their most notable creations is the 3776, which has several renditions featuring unique crafting techniques and materials, a true classic for any pen lover!
