Celluloid was once a very popular and widely used material by pen manufacturers before the invention of plastic, due to its ease of coloring and molding as well as the beautiful colors one can produce with it. However, since it is more vulnerable to heat and in some cases, can easily ignite, only a few pen manufactures continue to produce pen barrels with celluloid. Platinum is one of them.

Platinum uses a unique method - rolling up the celluloid plate into a tube, producing unique patterns. Each pen barrel is individually handmade by craftsman with the utmost care in their factory.

The Platinum #3776 is a timeless model, one that is oftentimes many's first introduction to 14k gold nibs. First produced in 1978, it's name is derived from the Mt. Fuji, Japan's highest peak. Platinum spent over 5 years designing this pen so that it fits in your hands perfectly. The cap features a slip and seal mechanism, which keeps the ink from drying out, even after being left unused for a year.

In comparison to other brands, Platinum's 14k gold nib is slightly larger at the shoulders, and offers a unique combination of firmness and responsiveness. It gives you some tactile feedback, and almost feels like you're writing with a pencil! Platinum has continued to make new and exciting versions of the #3776, with various materials and techniques today.

賽璐珞(Celluloid)是最早發明的熱可塑性樹脂。中文譯名「賽璐珞」中的璐和珞都指代美玉，巧妙地表達出這是「媲美美玉」的材質。因為能夠簡單成形，又耐水、不易碎裂，而且光澤明亮、觸感溫潤，賽璐珞在二十世紀初被歐美日等地筆廠廣泛應用於製作筆桿。

不過，由於賽璐珞燃點低下（大約攝氏100度），而且加工費時費力，甚至需要六個月以至數年時間成型，賽璐珞後來逐漸被其他物料取代。

現今日本只有少數筆廠堅持製作賽璐珞筆款，Platinum是其中之一。每枝筆桿都需要工匠以手工一心一意地製作成型，不能由機器代勞，以免賽璐珞因過熱而自燃。獨一無二的紋路，無可取替的手感和溫度，是專屬於賽璐珞的浪漫。
