Platinum 3776 3rd Fuji Unkei Fountain Pen: Kinu-Gumo 絹雲 (2025 Limited Edition)

Continuing the legacy of the “Fuji Five Lakes” and “Fuji Shunkei” series released from 2011 to 2022, Platinum introduces the latest in the Fuji Unkei 3776 line: the “Kinu-Gumo” 絹雲, the third edition in this distinguished series.

The “Kinu-Gumo” draws inspiration from the ethereal beauty of Mount Fuji draped in silky clouds—“kinu-gumo” meaning “silk clouds” in Japanese.  Kinu-Gumo (絹雲, silk clouds) are characterized by their thin, delicate, fibrous, or feather-like appearance, much like silk.

The pen’s design embodies this vision: the cap is rendered in a soft grayish teal evocative of the crisp autumn air in which silk clouds appears.

The transparent barrel is adorned with two types of engravings: one is the deep long V-groove carving; the other is the intricate, flowing, wavy guilloche patterns mimicking the gentle undulations of silk clouds drifting across the mountain.  By intentionally leaving some areas unengraved, the presence of clouds floating in the sky is accentuated.  This interplay of texture and light creates an atmosphere of serene elegance of the Fuji mountain cloudscape.

This limited edition pen is produced in only 2,500 sets worldwide, with each pen individually numbered on the cap. Due to its exclusivity, only a small number was allocated to our shop.

The Kinu-Gumo set is presented in a special gift box and includes a limited edition “Nishiki-Oru-Fuji” ink (30ml), inspired by the autumn foliage in golden and red tones surrounding Mt. Fuji. The ink features a red base with a vibrant orange golden sheen.  The bottle cap is engraved with a motif unique to this edition, making it a highly collectible item for enthusiasts.

The pen is fitted with a 14K gold, rhodium-plated nib, offered in three sizes: EF, F, and M.

Packaged with: Pen box, converter, Blue Black cartridge x1, and the exclusive “Nishiki-Oru-Fuji” ink (20ml).

About the Platinum #3776

The Platinum #3776 is a timeless model, one that is oftentimes many's first introduction to 14k gold nibs. First produced in 1978, it's name is derived from the Mt. Fuji, Japan's highest peak. Platinum spent over 5 years designing this pen so that it fits in your hands perfectly. The cap features a slip and seal mechanism, which keeps the ink from drying out, even after being left unused for a year.

In comparison to other brands, Platinum's 14k gold nib is slightly larger at the shoulders, and offers a unique combination of firmness and responsiveness. It gives you some tactile feedback, and almost feels like you're writing with a pencil! Platinum has continued to make new and exciting versions of the #3776, with various materials and techniques today.

Platinum is a prestigious Japanese pen brand recognized for its exceptional craftsmanship and innovation. Founded in 1919 by Shunichi Nakata in Tokyo, Japan, this beloved pen company was initially named Nakaya Seisakusho, which means “manufacturer” and later renamed as Platinum Pen Company in 1928.

Under Shunichi Nakata’s visionary leadership, Platinum became a pioneer in the manufacturing and trading of fine writing instruments. Their areas of expertise ranged from introducing the catalogue ordering system, producing the first iridium tipped steel nib and the first platinum nibs, to inventing the first cartridge filled system and the “slip and seal” mechanism to prevent ink from drying out in the pen.

To the present day, Platinum remains dedicated to its quest for innovation to create “the ideal fountain pen” that combines timeless elegance with cutting-edge technology. One of their most notable creations is the 3776, which has several renditions featuring unique crafting techniques and materials, a true classic for any pen lover!
