About Cypress
Cypress is a young brand established in 2018 in Taiwan consisting of a team of innovative designers and artisans whose aspiration is to produce writing instruments that are meant to last a lifetime. Initially specializing in making wooden pens, Cypress has since expanded their repertoire of materials and techniques to include urushi, maki-e, raden, ebonite, metalcraft and unique resin materials.
The Barrel Material - Micarta
The Cobra has a pen body made of micarta. Micarta was originally a brand developed in early 20th century, referring to a composite of paper, linen, canvas or other materials held together by resin. This name is now generally used to describe resin-impregnated compounds of nearly any material, often used to make knife or appliance handles.
This version of the Cobra pen is composed of layers of black and gray fabric that are stacked and bound together by resin, producing a final look resembling ebony wood.
The Nickel Silver Clip – Cobra Motif
The soul of the Cobra Fountain Pen is unquestionably the clip. The metal clip, made of nickel silver, features a cobra that is seen entwining a twig with its head raised and hood dilated, ready to attack. The detailed and layered carving makes the cobra so vivid that it seems to come alive in front of our eyes!
In ancient Egypt, the cobra was worn by kings on head pieces and represented Wadget, an ancient goddess symbolizing royalty, power and authority. In Chinese culture, cobra is recognized as a guardian creature warding off demons and misfortune. In some rural areas of Southern China, cobra motifs on buildings and gates serve as a protector of the household and their crops. In modern times, the cobra represents wisdom, transformation, renewal and self-awareness.
Muze’s 5th Anniversary
Since the founding of Muze Pens in 2019, it has been five memorable years of ups and downs, achievements and challenges. Like many Hong Kongers who have experienced the economic decline in the last five years, our journey certainly has not been easy.
Released in 2025 during the Year of the Snake, let us be gifted with the wisdom and auspicious aura of the Cobra to shed our old skin, renew and become stronger!
Cypress Stainless Steel Nib
The Cobra is equipped with a duo-tone steel nib made by Cypress’ nib masters. The nib is available in EF, F, M and B. Writing with the nib is smooth and responsive and it is suitable for those who practice Chinese calligraphy.
The Refilling Mechanism
The Cobra uses a German Schmidt converter or international cartridges for ink refilling.
The Bamboo Wooden Box
The Cobra is packaged in an exquisite bamboo wooden box (made of Nanzhu 楠竹) with magnetic enclosure.
Let this Cobra fountain pen be your personal guardian, protecting you in this Year of Snake with boundless regenerative energy and abundance of good fortune!
