Explore Colorful Dreamscapes in Every Stroke!

Cypress Colorful Fountain Pen - Krakatoa is an exquisite writing instrument inspired by the colors of the famed volcano, Krakatoa.

The pen is part of the "Colorful" pen collection.  The pen collection showcases the brilliant palette of the world around us, a unique pen series from Cypress that explores the beauty of the material, cellulose acetate – each pen is a celebration of colors and craftsmanship.

About Krakatoa

Towering between Java and Sumatra, the legendary volcano Krakatoa is an enduring symbol of nature’s raw beauty and power. Its name evokes both awe and wonder, conjuring images of dramatic eruptions and mesmerizing skylines.

When Krakatoa awakened in 1883, its colossal eruption transformed the skies—fiery plumes of ash and molten lava painted the heavens in surreal hues, from glowing reds and oranges to elusive violets and deep, ashen brown and blacks. For weeks, the sunsets around the world burned with a spectrum rarely witnessed, etching the volcano’s legend not only into the earth, but into the very fabric of human imagination.

It is this painterly eruption—the marriage of chaos and colors—that inspires the making of Cypress Colorful Fountain Pen - Krakatoa.

The pen’s palette draws directly from the dynamic landscape of volcanic activity: the smoky grays echo the drifting volcanic ash; vibrant brown-reds and golds streaks evoke the searing flow of lava and fiery spewing of molten gold; and plumes of blue and purple capture the phenomenon of refracted light in ash-laden skies.

Each pen, crafted from luminous cellulose acetate, encapsulates these natural wonders, its swirling colors reminiscent of the ever-changing spectacle seen around Krakatoa in its most dramatic moments.

About Cellulose Acetate

Cellulose acetate is a thermoplastic material derived from cellulose, often extracted from cotton or wood pulp, is a beautiful material for crafting fountain pens due to its remarkable ability to showcase dazzling colors and intricate patterns. Its unique structure allows artisans to achieve deep, lustrous finishes that shimmer in the light, creating pens with a vibrant and captivating appearance.

Beyond its visual appeal, cellulose acetate is highly workable—easily lathed, shaped, polished and detailed—enabling pen makers to bring out the full spectrum of colors and designs. Each pen made from this material becomes not just a writing instrument, but a one-of-a-kind work of art that reflects the dynamic and ever-changing beauty of this unique material itself.

Cypress is a relatively young brand established in 2018 from Taiwan, consisting of a team of innovative designers and artisans whose aspiration is to produce writing
instruments that are meant to last a lifetime. They initially specialized in making wooden pens, believing that each wooden piece carries a unique soul and
personality of its own, that must be thoughtfully and meticulously cared for in
order to truly convey the material’s story.

Cypress’ parent company was originally a manufacturing technology company, and they proudly employ various technical methodologies and equipment to produce unique, high quality writing instruments. Since the early days, they have expanded
their repertoire of materials and techniques to include urushi, maki-e, raden,
metal craft, ebonite, and unique resin materials. They also produce their own
in-house fountain pen nibs, which are well loved among users for its sturdy construction and line variation.
